Recover expired subscriptions quick action

Bring back expired subscribers with a one-click restart, no checkout required

The revive expired subscriptions quick action lets subscribers restart an expired subscription with a single click through email or SMS, without going through checkout again. You can pair it with a discount or free gift to make restarting more attractive. This article covers why to use it, how to set it up, and what subscribers see when they use it.

Why use this quick action

Expired subscriptions are satisfied customers whose journey ended, not subscribers who chose to leave. Offering a one-click revival in the expiry notification recovers that revenue while intent is still high. This makes reviving expired subscriptions a lower-effort winback than building a new campaign every time.

When to use this quick action

This quick action works well in these situations:

  • When a subscription expires and you want to recover the customer before they move on

  • When you want to add a discount or gift incentive to lift revival rates

  • As part of a broader re-engagement flow targeting recently expired subscribers

What you can configure

For a revive expired subscriptions quick action, you can configure the action name, an optional incentive to encourage the restart, and the drawer text subscribers see on customer portal.

Action keys

Loop auto-generates two action keys based on the action name you enter. You can find them on the quick action detail screen after saving:

  • Loop notifications key: used inside Loop email templates

  • Klaviyo key: used in third-party communication tools

These keys dynamically resolve into a personalized quick action URL for each subscriber.

How to create a revive expired subscriptions quick action

Navigate to Loop admin > Retain > Quick actions, then click Create new quick action.

  1. Select Revive expired subscriptions as the action type.

  2. Enter an Action name (internal use only). Loop uses this name to auto-generate your action keys.

  3. The Subscription expired event is auto-selected as the supported event.

  4. Under Action incentive, click + Add incentive to configure a discount or gift (optional).

  5. Customize the drawer texts

  6. Click Save.

Where to use the quick action URL

Loop notifications

Add the Loop notifications key as a variable inside your Loop email templates. The variable dynamically generates a personalized URL for each subscriber.

Third-party tools

You can use the Klaviyo key in any tool integrated with Loop, such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Recart, or Omnisend. Add the key to your button URL so subscribers land directly on the revival flow.

Subscriber experience

When a subscriber clicks the quick action link received on email or SMS, they land on customer portal and see a drawer asking them to renew their subscription. They can choose to place the order right away or pick a future date for their next order. Once they confirm, their subscription is reactivated and a success message is shown.
