Resume subscription quick action

Motivate paused subscribers to resume with personalized discounts and one-click reactivation.

The resume subscription quick action lets your subscribers resume their paused subscription with a single click from an email or SMS. Paused subscribers are often high-intent customers who stalled for a specific reason, and a personalized nudge with a discount or free gift is usually enough to bring them back.

This article covers why to use it, how it works, how to set it up, the subscriber experience, and how to track performance.

Why use this quick action

When a subscriber pauses their subscription, that revenue is temporarily on hold but the subscriber relationship is still intact. The resume subscription quick action helps you recover that paused revenue by delivering a direct resume link in an email or SMS, so subscribers can pick up where they left off in one click. Pairing it with a discount or gift gives paused subscribers an additional incentive to resume sooner rather than later.

When to use this quick action

This quick action works well in these situations:

  • When a subscriber pauses their subscription due to travel, overstock, or other temporary reasons

  • When all payment retries have failed and the subscription is at risk of churning

  • As part of a re-engagement flow targeting subscribers who have been paused for an extended period

What you can configure

For a resume subscription quick action, you can configure the subscription events that trigger the quick action link, an optional incentive to encourage subscribers to resume, and the pop-up text subscribers see when they land on customer portal.

Supported events

The events you select during setup determine where the quick action URL is injected in your notification payloads. The available events are:

  • Subscription paused

  • Payment failed with no retries left

Action incentive

You can attach a discount or gift to the resume action to give subscribers an additional reason to resume their subscription. Click + Add incentive to configure the incentive.

Pop-up texts

You can customize the text shown on the customer portal pop-up that appears when a subscriber clicks the link. All fields have defaults that you can override:

Action keys

Loop auto-generates two action keys based on the action name you enter. You can find them on the quick action detail screen after saving:

  • Loop notifications key: used inside Loop email templates

  • Klaviyo key: used in third-party communication tools

These keys dynamically resolve into a personalized quick action URL for each subscriber.

How to create a resume subscription quick action

Navigate to Loop admin > Retain > Quick actions, then click Create a quick action.

  1. Select Resume subscription as the action type.

  2. Enter an Action name (internal use only). Loop uses this name to auto-generate your action keys.

  3. Select the supported events where you want the quick action link to be available.

  4. Under Action incentive, click + Add incentive to configure a discount or gift (optional).

  5. Customize the pop-up texts (optional).

  6. Click Save.

Where to use the quick action URL

Loop notifications

Add the Loop notifications key as a variable inside your Loop email templates. The variable dynamically generates a personalized URL for each subscriber.

Third-party tools

You can use the Klaviyo key in any tool integrated with Loop, such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Recart, or Omnisend. Add the key to your button URL so subscribers land directly on the resume flow.

Subscriber experience

When a subscriber clicks the resume subscription quick action link, they land on customer portal and see a confirmation pop-up asking if they want to resume their subscription. They can confirm or close the pop-up. If they confirm, their subscription is resumed and a success message is shown.

Performance tracking

You can track adoption and performance via analytics:

  • Clicks (link engagement)

  • Product additions (conversion)

Use this to refine product selection, timing, and incentives.
