The swap quick action lets your subscribers switch to a different product in their subscription from the customer portal (in one click from your email). You can map swap profiles to the quick action, and present the available swap options when a subscriber clicks the link. This article covers how to create the quick action, what each setting does, and how to use the action keys in your communications.
Why use this quick action
When a subscriber is about to cancel or pause, the moment they act is also the best moment to offer an alternative. The swap quick action delivers that alternative directly in an email, so they can switch products. This means you can address the reason behind a cancellation before it happens, rather than trying to win back a subscriber after they have already left.
When to use this quick action
This quick action works well in these situations:
A product is out of stock or discontinued and you want to offer an alternative before a subscriber cancels
A subscriber has paused or cancelled their subscription and you want to re-engage them with a relevant swap offer
You want to proactively recommend similar flavors, sizes, or variants to reduce churn
What you can configure
For a swap quick action, you can configure the subscription events that trigger the quick action link, the swap products that the subscribers can choose from, and the pop-up text they see when completing the swap.
Supported events
The events you select during setup determine where the quick action URL is injected in your notification payloads. The available events are:
Upcoming order reminder
Subscription created
Subscription paused
Subscription cancelled
Note: If a subscriber completes a swap and their subscription was paused or cancelled, Loop automatically resumes or reactivates it.
Map swap profiles
Select the swap profiles that are eligible for this quick action. Loop shows the subscriber the available swaps from the selected profiles when they click the link. Only active profiles that include at least one product swap option are shown.
You can set a Quick action link text per profile, which is used as the label for the swap link displayed to the subscriber. If you have not created a swap profile yet, click Create swap profile to set one up before saving.
Pop-up texts
You can customize the text shown on the customer portal swap pop-up. All fields have defaults that you can override:
Field | Default |
Choose old product text | Choose old product |
Choose new product text | Choose new product |
Show new product details | Show details |
Hide new product details | Hide details |
Action keys
Loop auto-generates four action keys based on the action name you enter. You can find them on the quick action detail screen after saving.
URL keys - link subscribers directly to the swap flow:
Loop notifications key: used inside Loop email templates
Klaviyo key: used in third-party communication tools
Text keys : dynamically update the swap link label based on the available swap profile:
Action text key (Loop notifications): used inside Loop email templates
Action text key (Klaviyo): used in third-party communication tools
Using the text key alongside the URL key means the swap link label reflects the specific swap available to that subscriber, rather than a generic button label.
How to create a swap quick action
Navigate to Loop admin > Retain > Quick actions, then click Create a quick action.
Select Swap as the action type.
Enter an Action name (internal use only). Loop uses this name to auto-generate your action keys.
Select the supported events where you want the quick action link to be available.
Under Map swap profiles, select the swap profiles that should be available for this quick action.
Customize the pop-up texts (optional).
Click Save.
Where to use the quick action URL
Loop notifications
Add the Loop notifications key as a variable inside your Loop email templates. Use the action text key alongside it to display a dynamic, profile-aware label for the swap link.
Third-party tools (Klaviyo)
You can use the Klaviyo key in any tool integrated with Loop, such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Recart, or Omnisend. Add the key to your button URL so subscribers land directly on the swap flow. See Use it in third-party tools like Klaviyo for setup steps.
Subscriber experience
When a subscriber clicks the swap quick action link, they are taken to customer portal where the swap drawer opens automatically. The drawer shows the available swap options from the profiles you mapped, and the subscriber can select the product they want to swap and confirms. If the subscription was paused or cancelled, Loop automatically resumes or reactivates it once the swap is complete.
Performance tracking
You can track adoption and performance via analytics:
Clicks (link engagement)
Product additions (conversion)
Use this to refine product selection, timing, and incentives.
