Winback quick action

Winback customers back into their purchase cycle sooner while creating a positive re-engagement experience

The winback campaign quick action allows subscribers to reactivate their cancelled subscription with a single click through email or SMS. It can be used when a subscriber cancels their subscription or when payment retries are exhausted after a failed payment. You can also combine the action with a discount or free gift to encourage lapsed subscribers to return.

Why use this quick action

When a subscription is cancelled or a payment fails with no retries remaining, you can still retain the subscriber by encouraging them to reactivate with a discount or free gift. The winback campaign quick action makes this easy by delivering a direct reactivation link in an email or SMS, so subscribers can restore their subscription in one click. This helps improve subscriber retention and increases overall customer lifetime value (LTV).

When to use this quick action

This quick action works well in these situations:

  • When a subscriber cancels temporarily due to travel, overstock, or other short-term reasons

  • When all payment retries have failed and the subscription is at risk of being permanently lost

  • As part of a re-engagement flow targeting subscribers who have been inactive

What you can configure

For a winback campaign quick action, you can configure the subscription events that trigger the quick action link, an optional incentive to encourage reactivation, and the pop-up text subscribers see when they land on customer portal.

Supported events

The events you select during setup determine where the quick action URL is injected in your notification payloads. The available events are:

  • Subscription cancelled

  • Payment failed with no retries left

Action incentive

You can attach a discount or gift to the winback action to give subscribers an additional reason to reactivate their subscription. Click + Add incentive to configure the incentive.

Pop-up texts

You can customize the text shown on the customer portal pop-up that appears when a subscriber clicks the link. All fields have defaults that you can override:

Action keys

Loop auto-generates two action keys based on the action name you enter. You can find them on the quick action detail screen after saving:

  • Loop notifications key: used inside Loop email templates

  • Klaviyo key: used in third-party communication tools

These keys dynamically resolve into a personalized quick action URL for each subscriber.

How to create a winback campaign quick action

Navigate to Loop admin > Retain > Quick actions, then click Create a quick action.

  1. Select Winback campaign as the action type.

  2. Enter an Action name (internal use only). Loop uses this name to auto-generate your action keys.

  3. Select the supported events where you want the quick action link to be available.

  4. Under Action incentive, click + Add incentive to configure a discount or gift (optional).

  5. Customize the pop-up texts (optional).

  6. Click Save.

Where to use the quick action URL

Loop notifications

Add the Loop notifications key as a variable inside your Loop email templates. The variable dynamically generates a personalized URL for each subscriber.

Third-party tools

You can use the Klaviyo key in any tool integrated with Loop, such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Recart, or Omnisend. Add the key to your button URL so subscribers land directly on the winback flow.

Read How can you use quick actions in third-party tools like Klaviyo for setup steps.

Subscriber experience

When a subscriber clicks the winback quick action link received on email/SMS, they land on customer portal and see a confirmation pop-up asking if they want to reactivate their subscription. They can confirm or close the pop-up. If they confirm, their subscription is reactivated and a success message is shown.

Performance tracking

You can track adoption and performance via analytics:

  • Clicks (link engagement)

  • Product additions (conversion)

Use this to refine product selection, timing, and incentives.
