Upsell/Cross-sell quick action

The Upsell/Cross-sell quick action allows subscribers to instantly add products to their subscription directly from an email without navigating through the customer portal manually. This helps increase Average Order Value (AOV) and drive product adoption at the moment of engagement.

Why use upsell/cross-sell quick actions

Upsell and cross-sell quick actions help you convert intent into action by enabling subscribers to add products with minimal friction.

Instead of relying only on customer portal discovery, you can trigger product additions directly from communication channels where subscribers are already engaged.

Key benefits:

  • Increase AOV instantly: Let subscribers add products to their next order in one click

  • Drive product adoption: Promote complementary or new products at the right moment

  • Reduce friction: Skip navigation and take users directly to the action

  • Omnichannel reach: Use across Loop notifications, Klaviyo, and other tools

When to use this quick action

This quick action works best when:

  • You want to promote add-ons in upcoming order reminders

  • You are sending post-purchase or subscription-created emails

  • You want to recommend complementary products

  • You are pushing limited-time add-ons via SMS or email

  • You want to test high-conversion, low-friction upsell flows

What you can configure

Product selection

Choose the product or variant that will be added when the subscriber clicks the quick action.

Each quick action targets a specific product.

Discount configuration

Optionally apply a discount to incentivize adoption.

  • Percentage or fixed discount (if supported in your setup)

Preset bundles (latest)

You can now select preset bundles as part of your upsell/cross-sell quick actions.

  • Ensure upsell settings are enabled. Visit Grow > Upsells > Customer portal > Customer permissions to check the existing configuration

  • Ensure the bundle is added in General upsell recommendation. Add by visiting Grow > Upsells > Customer portal > General upsell profile > Recommended items > Bundles > Add bundles

  • Select the relevant preset bundle while creating the quick action

  • Subscribers can add the bundle to their subscription or as a one-time add-on

Important:
Preset bundles are always added at the discounted price configured in the bundle admin. Additional discounts cannot be applied on top of this price.

Supported events

Define where the quick action link will be available:

  • Subscription created

  • Upcoming order reminder

  • Subscription resumed

  • Subscription reactivated

The selected events determine where the quick action URL is injected in payloads.

Action keys

Each quick action generates a unique key used to reference it in notifications and third-party tools.

  • Loop notifications key → used inside Loop email templates

  • Klaviyo key → used in external communication tools

These keys dynamically resolve into quick action URLs.

How to create an Upsell/Cross-sell quick action

  1. Navigate to Loop admin → Retain → Quick actions

  2. Click Create a quick action

  3. Select Upsell / Cross-sell product

  4. Add an Action name (internal use)

  5. Select the product or variant

  6. Configure discount (optional)

  7. Choose supported events

  8. Save the quick action

Where to use the quick action URL

Similar to other quick actions, this can be used across channels:

  • Loop notifications
Add the quick action variable inside email templates

  • 3rd party tools (Klaviyo, Omnisend, etc.)
Use the action key inside button links to trigger the flow

The same link dynamically applies the configured action when opened.

You can also send the same quick action URL through tools integrated with Loop (like Klaviyo, Attentive, Recart, Omnisend). Add the variable to your button URL so subscribers land directly in the recovery flow.

Subscriber experience

When a subscriber clicks the quick action link:

  • They are redirected to the customer portal

  • The relevant product is pre-configured for addition

  • They can:

    • Add as a one-time add-on, or

    • Add as a subscription product (if supported)

Once completed:

  • The product is added to their subscription

  • A success message is shown

Performance tracking

You can track adoption and performance via analytics:

  • Clicks (link engagement)

  • Product additions (conversion)

Use this to refine product selection, timing, and incentives.
