Quantity upgrades

Offer your subscribers a higher quantity of the same product on a longer billing cadence, with the option to let them choose products.

A product quantity + frequency change upgrade moves your subscriber to a higher quantity of the same product on a longer billing cadence. A subscriber receiving one unit every month can move to three units every three months and get a discount.

This article covers when to use quantity upgrades, how the quantity thresholds and discounts behave, and how to let your subscribers choose different products during the upgrade.

When to use quantity upgrades

Use this upgrade type to incentivize bulk buying on customer portal. Instead of introducing a new SKU, you keep your subscriber on the product they already buy and increase how much they receive per delivery.

For example, you can move a subscriber from 1 quantity every month to 3 quantity every 3 months and give 10% off. This suits brands running bulk buying discounts on consumables.

Setting up a quantity upgrade

Follow these steps to create the profile:

  1. Navigate to Loop admin > Grow > Upgrades

  2. Click Create new profile and select Product Quantity + frequency change.

  3. Add an internal name for the upgrade profile. Note that you can also switch between upgrade types while configuring the profile.

  4. Add conditions based on subscription, product, customer, bundle, or demographic properties to target specific subscribers.

  5. In Eligible products, select the products this offer applies to.

By allowing 'product choice', you can let your subscribers choose different products during a quantity upgrade instead of automatically receiving multiple units of the same product.

For example, if a customer upgrades to a 3× subscription, they can now choose up to 3 products from the available options, unlocking a much more flexible upgrade experience.

  6. In Upgrade offer quantity and frequency, set the Upgrade offer quantity and the Upgrade offer frequency. The upgrade offer will only be shown if the subscribed quantity of the eligible product is less than the upgrade offer quantity.

  7. In the Offer section, select the Offer type for the discount. You can choose between selling plan-based discount, percentage, fixed amount off per item and fixed price.

You may also add customer tags in the Customer tags section if you want to tag subscribers who take the offer.

  8. Configure the upgrade banner and drawer texts your subscribers see on customer portal.

You may also click on customize to update the banners, styles, and texts and preview it in both, mobile and desktop views.

  9. Set Profile status to Active and save.

Customer portal experience

The upgrade offer banner shown is of the highest eligible upgrade profile. A product quantity + frequency change upgrade offer is shown only if the subscribed quantity of the eligible product is less than the upgrade offer quantity.

If you have enabled "Allow product choice", then the customer will be able to select from any of the available products configured in the profile for their upgrade.

If you have not enabled "Allow product choice", then the customer will be able to select from any of the available products configured in the profile for their upgrade.

If there are multiple upgrade profiles that this subscription is eligible for, then a "See all upgrades" button will appear to allow the customer to explore all of their offers.

Eligibility and limitations

  • The upgrade offer is shown only if the subscribed quantity of the eligible product is less than the upgrade offer quantity.

  • Quantity upgrade offers are only shown for subscriptions with one product, the same as other upgrade types that change frequency. One-time add-ons do not affect eligibility.

  • The product must be mapped to a valid selling plan and must be in stock.

  • Prepaid, gift, and in-dunning subscriptions are not supported.

Because the offer depends on the subscribed quantity being lower than the offer quantity, this profile type cannot move a subscriber to a smaller quantity. Your subscribers can reduce quantity themselves by opening the product in customer portal and editing it.

FAQs

Can subscribers choose different products instead of multiple units of the same one?

Yes, configure the eligible products in the profile and enable the Allow product choice preference, and your subscribers can pick up to the upgraded quantity from those options.

What happens if a subscriber drops below the upgraded quantity?

We recalculate pricing for all remaining co-upgraded lines, because the threshold is validated against the combined quantity rather than individual products.

Does swapping a product remove the upgrade discount?

No, swap and one-time remove are not considered line removals, so the upgrade incentive stays in place.
