SKU upgrade with frequency change

Set up upgrade offers that move your subscribers to a higher-value product and a longer billing cadence at the same time.

A SKU upgrade + frequency change switches your subscriber to a higher-value product and a longer billing cadence in one step. A subscriber receiving a one-month supply of a shampoo every month can move to a two-month pack delivered every two months at a better price.

This article covers when to use this upgrade type, how to map frequencies during setup, and the eligibility rules that apply.

When to use a SKU upgrade with frequency change

Use this upgrade type when the larger pack you are offering is meant to last longer than the current delivery cycle. Moving the product and the cadence together keeps the subscription consistent, so your subscriber is not left with stock they cannot use before the next delivery.

Setting up a SKU upgrade with frequency change

Follow these steps to create the profile:

  1. Navigate to Loop admin > Grow > Upgrades

  2. Click Create new profile and select SKU upgrade + frequency change.

  3. Add an internal name for the upgrade profile. Note that you can also switch between upgrade types while configuring the profile.

  4. Add conditions based on subscription, product, customer, bundle, or demographic properties to target specific subscribers.

  5. Map the current product to the products you want to offer as upgrades. You can map one product to several upgrade options, and also edit the priority of the upgrade options.

Multiple upgrades for different products can also be configured by clicking on "Add action"

  6. In the Subscription frequency section, select the old frequency and the new frequency for the upgrade.

  7. Configure the discount. You can choose a discount based on the selling plan, a fixed discount, or a percentage.

You may also add customer tags to easily identify customers who have accepted this upgrade offer. You can add up to 3 comma separated values here.

  8. Configure the upgrade banner and drawer texts your subscribers see on customer portal.

You may also click on customize to update the banners, styles, and texts and preview it in both, mobile and desktop views.

  9. Set the profile to Active and save.

How frequency mapping works

The old frequency determines which subscribers see the offer, and the new frequency is what their subscription moves to when they accept. A subscriber whose current cadence does not match the old frequency you selected will not be shown the offer.

Customer portal experience

By default, the banner of the profile with the highest priority will be visible. A SKU upgrade + frequency change upgrade offer is shown only on single-line subscriptions, with the eligible product on the 'old frequency'.

When the customer clicks on the banner, they will be able to see the offer. When there are multiple upgrade offers available, a "See all upgrades" button is also visible.

When the customer clicks on "See all upgrades", they can explore and choose from all eligible upgrade offers.

For more on analytics, preferences, and reset visibility settings, read Upgrades overview.

Eligibility and limitations

  • The offer is shown only if the subscription has a single subscribed product. One-time add-ons do not affect eligibility.

  • The new product must be mapped to a valid selling plan and must be in stock.

  • Prepaid, gift, and in-dunning subscriptions are not supported.

Note: Contracts with more than one subscription line are not eligible for this upgrade type. Use a SKU upgrade if you need to reach subscribers on multi-line contracts.

FAQs

Can I offer this upgrade to subscribers with more than one subscription product?

No, this upgrade type is limited to subscriptions with a single subscribed product, but you can use a SKU upgrade to reach multi-subscription line contracts without changing the frequency.

Do I have to change the frequency to offer a bigger pack?

No, a SKU upgrade swaps the product while keeping the frequency the same, so use this type only when you want the cadence to change as well.

Can I map more than one upgrade product in a single profile?

Yes, you can map several products and set their priority, and your subscribers can choose between them if you enable the options visibility preference.

Is it possible to apply this upgrade on a subscriber's behalf?

Yes, you can trigger the upgrade manually from the subscription detail screen in Loop admin, and the activity logs record the before and after details for product, frequency, and price.

Can I use this profile to move subscribers to more frequent deliveries?

Yes, you select the old and new frequency yourself in the Subscription frequency section, so you can map a 3-month cadence to a monthly one and offer subscribers who run out early a shorter gap between deliveries. Set the banner and drawer texts to match what you are offering. The offer will only reach subscriptions on the 'older' frequency, which in this case would be on a 3-month cadence.
