MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets you connect Loop directly to AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, so you can ask questions about your subscription business in plain language - churn, payment recovery, revenue, cohort retention - and get answers pulled live from your store's data, without opening the Loop dashboard.
When to use this
Connect Loop's MCP server when you want to:
Ask an AI assistant questions like "What's my payment success rate this month?" or "Why is churn up?" and get answers sourced from your actual store data.
Get a quick read on subscriber, revenue, cohort, payment, or cancellation performance without navigating through Analytics.
Let your team explore Loop data conversationally, without needing to know where a given metric lives in the dashboard.
MCP is read-focused: it's built for asking questions and getting answers, not for making changes to your store from inside the AI assistant.
What you can connect it to
Loop's MCP server works with any AI assistant that supports custom MCP connectors. We have dedicated setup steps for:
Claude
ChatGPT
Other AI assistants (any MCP-compatible tool, including Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini, and others)
What data it can access
Once connected, an AI assistant can query the same analytics that power your Loop dashboard:
Read-only tools
Current store - confirms which store the assistant is connected to
Subscribers — overview & acquisition — subscriber/subscription counts, trends, acquisition performance
Subscribers — revenue & lifetime value - subscription revenue, recurring vs. checkout revenue, LTV
Cohort analysis - retention, orders, and revenue tracked by acquisition month
Payments — success, recovery & failures - payment success rate, recovery performance, failure reasons
Cancellations — overview - churn rate, MRR lost, cancellation reasons and breakdowns
Cancellations — saves (flow) - save rate and retention-offer performance
Write/delete tools
Submit feedback - lets the assistant flag whether one of its own answers was helpful, unhelpful, or missing something. It sends feedback about the assistant's own response back to Loop, so we can improve accuracy over time.
Switch store - starts the process of connecting the assistant to a different Shopify store. This doesn't switch anything on its own - it asks you the shopify store domain you want to switch to and you will be able to do so if you are an authorised user in the store you are switching to.
How to connect
Claude
Prerequisites
You have an active Claude account. Your Claude account should support custom connectors.
You have a role on Loop with MCP access - check with your store admin if you're not sure. (Loop Settings > Users and Permission)
Steps
Copy the connector URL -
https://mcp.loopwork.co/mcp. This link isn't store-specific, so it's safe to share with teammates.Add it to Claude as a custom connector - in Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and click Add.
Click Connect.
Confirm your identity through your Shopify store - you'll land on Loop's sign-in page and be asked which Shopify store to connect. Loop checks your account and role, then shows you what Claude can access - you're ready to go. (In case you are not logged in to the store you want to connect, first login to the Shopify store and then try again this step).
ChatGPT
Prerequisites
You have an active ChatGPT account. Your ChatGPT account should support custom connectors.
You have a role on Loop with MCP access - check with your store admin if you're not sure. (Loop Settings > Users and Permission)
Steps
Enable developer mode - in ChatGPT, navigate to Settings → Security and Login, and toggle Developer mode on.
Copy the connector URL -
https://mcp.loopwork.co/mcp. This link isn't store-specific, so it's safe to share with teammates.Add it to ChatGPT as a custom connector - in ChatGPT, navigate to Settings → Plugin → Browse plugins. Click the + icon to add a new plugin, and paste the URL into the Connection field. Add a name, select "I understand and want to continue," and click Create.
Click Connect.
Confirm your identity through your Shopify store - you'll land on Loop's sign-in page and be asked which Shopify store to connect. Loop checks your account and role, then shows you what ChatGPT can access — you're ready to go. (In case you are not logged in to the store you want to connect, first login to the Shopify store and then try again this step).
Other AI assistants
Prerequisites
You have an AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) - as a custom connector, remote server, or plugin. Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini, Perplexity, and most other MCP-compatible tools work here.
You have a role on Loop with MCP access - check with your store admin if you're not sure. (Loop Settings > Users and Permission)
Steps
Find the MCP or connector settings in your AI assistant - look for a section called "MCP Servers," "Connectors," "Integrations," or "Plugins." Most MCP-compatible tools have one of these, though the exact name and location varies by client.
Copy the connector URL -
https://mcp.loopwork.co/mcp. This link isn't store-specific, so it's safe to share with teammates.Add it as a custom MCP server - paste the URL into your assistant's connector/server field and save. If your assistant asks for a name, "Loop" works fine.
Click Connect.
Confirm your identity through your Shopify store - you'll land on Loop's sign-in page and be asked which Shopify store to connect. Loop checks your account and role, then shows you what your AI assistant can access - you're ready to go. (In case you are not logged in to the store you want to connect, first login to the Shopify store and then try again this step).
Don't see a matching option in your assistant? Check its documentation for "MCP," "remote server," or "custom connector" support - not every AI tool supports this yet.
What happens when you connect
Your AI assistant redirects you to a Loop sign-in screen: "[Assistant] would like to access your Loop account."
Enter your Shopify store URL and click Login.
If everything checks out, you'll see Authentication success - you are now connected to [Assistant]. You can close the tab and return to your AI assistant.
If your account doesn't have MCP tools access turned on, you'll still see the success screen, but with a note: "MCP tools access is currently disabled for this account. Ask your store admin to turn ON access from Loop > Users and permissions." You're connected, but the assistant won't be able to pull any data until an admin enables access for your role.
Managing tool permissions
Once connected, most AI assistants (Claude included) let you control exactly which tools the assistant can use, and how much confirmation it needs before using them:
Allow - the assistant can use this tool without asking you each time.
Needs approval - the assistant will ask before using this tool, every time.
Never - the assistant can't use this tool at all.
Tools are grouped into Read-only tools and Write/delete tools, and you can set a permission for the whole group or override it per tool. You'll only see tools your organization has been given access to - if a tool isn't listed, your role doesn't have access to it, and an admin will need to grant it from Loop > Users and permissions.
We'd recommend leaving read-only tools on Allow once you're comfortable with what the assistant is doing, and keeping write/delete tools on Needs approval so nothing changes in your store without your explicit confirmation.
FAQs
Can multiple people on my team connect their own AI assistants to Loop?
Yes. Each teammate connects using their own Loop login, and what they can see is scoped to their own role and permissions - the same access rules that apply inside the Loop dashboard apply here.
What happens if my role doesn't have MCP access?
You can still go through the connection flow, but you'll see a message letting you know MCP tools are disabled for your account, and any question you ask will come back without data. Ask your store admin to enable access for your role from Loop > Users and permissions.
Does this cost anything extra?
MCP access is controlled through your existing Loop plan and role permissions - check with your store admin if you're unsure whether it's included for your account.\
Is my store data shared with Anthropic, OpenAI, or other AI providers?
Loop only sends the specific data needed to answer the question your AI assistant asks, at the moment it asks it - the same way any other tool integration works. Loop doesn't proactively push your store data anywhere.
Can I disconnect an AI assistant later?
Yes - from your AI assistant's own connector/integration settings, you can disconnect Loop MCP any time. This immediately stops that assistant from being able to query your data.
Can I connect more than one store?
Yes you can manage multiple stores at a time. Call the switch_store tool in chat and enter the Shopify domain of the store you want to switch to. Once it is done, you will be able to pull new store data in the next conversation.
What if the AI assistant gets a number wrong, or seems unsure?
Treat it the same way you'd treat any answer from a teammate reading the dashboard - if a number looks off, check it against Analytics directly. The assistant is reading the same underlying data as your dashboard, but always double-check anything you're about to act on.
Can I use this to ask about every page in Loop's Analytics?
Not yet - MCP currently covers Subscribers (Overview, Acquisition, Revenue, Lifetime value), Cohorts, Payments (Overview, Recovery, Failures), and Cancellations (Overview, Saves). A few Analytics pages aren't available through MCP yet; we are building some other tools in next phase release.
