Post-purchase offers overview

Learn what Loop post-purchase offers are, how they work between checkout and order confirmation, and the two store settings required to activate them.

Note: Post-purchase is available exclusively on the Loop Pro plan.

What is a post-purchase offer?

A post-purchase offer is a frictionless, one-tap offer displayed to customers immediately after they complete payment at checkout - before they reach the final Shopify Order Confirmation (Thank You) page.

Because the customer's payment method and shipping address are already vaulted from checkout, they can accept an add-on product, upgrade their one-time purchase to a recurring subscription, or step up to a higher-tier subscription plan with a single tap - without re-entering their credit card or billing details.

How the Post-Purchase Funnel Works

Every post-purchase offer profile in Loop follows a structured customer journey between payment and the Thank You page:

  1. Customer completes checkout: The initial payment is authorized in Shopify.

  2. Profile matching: Loop checks your active Post-purchase offer profiles in priority order (Priority 1 first). The first active profile whose targeting conditions match the checkout order is triggered.

  3. Primary offer display: The customer sees your Primary offer on a native Shopify-hosted post-purchase screen.

  4. Follow-on branching (Optional):

    • If accepted: The item or subscription change is applied to the order. If an On accept follow-on offer is enabled, the customer sees that second offer next.

    • If declined (or timer expires): No charge is made. If an On decline follow-on offer (downsell) is enabled, the customer sees that alternative offer next.

  5. Order confirmation: Once all steps in the profile conclude, the customer lands on the Shopify Thank You page and Loop processes the finalized order.

Key Benefits

  • Zero checkout friction: Offers appear after initial payment is captured, so there is zero risk to your primary checkout conversion rate.

  • One-tap acceptance: Customers never re-enter card numbers, CVVs, or shipping addresses.

  • Three purpose-built revenue levers: Unlike basic upsell tools that only add one-time items, Loop supports Upgrade to Subscription, Subscription Upsells, and Cross-Sells - and lets you mix templates within the same funnel.

  • Native Shopify styling: Hosted directly inside Shopify's checkout sandbox so the page inherits your store's trust signals and responsiveness.

Mandatory Prerequisites Before You Begin

IMPORTANT

Post-purchase offers will not display or process properly until both of the following settings are configured. Loop displays red alert banners at the top of the post-purchase offer page if either setting is missing.

Alt text: Critical warning banners in Loop Admin prompting the merchant to select Loop Subscriptions in Shopify Checkout settings and turn on Delay checkout orders.

Prerequisite 1: Select Loop Subscriptions in Shopify Checkout Settings

Shopify only allows one app at a time to render the post-purchase checkout extension.

  1. In your Loop Admin, click Configure checkout settings on the alert banner (or go directly to Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout).

  2. Scroll down to the post-purchase page section.

  3. Select Loop Subscriptions as your active post-purchase app.

  4. Click Save.

Prerequisite 2: Enable "Delay Checkout Orders" in Loop General Settings

When a customer lands on a post-purchase page, their order is already created in Shopify, but they may spend several minutes deciding on your Primary and Follow-on offers. Enabling a processing delay ensures Loop waits until all post-purchase offers are accepted or expired before creating subscription contracts and firing webhook/notification profiles.

  1. Go to Loop Admin → Settings → General.

  2. Scroll to the Delay checkout orders section.

  3. Check Delay order processing for checkout orders.

  4. Select a Delay duration (recommended: 10 minutes).

  5. Click Save.
