Order journey

Automate a structured product sequence across multiple orders on a subscription, without managing separate flows for each order.

Updated today

When subscriptions run on autopilot, every order is a chance to deliver something intentional. Order journey is a flow template that lets you map out a full product sequence across orders in advance. Loop then handles the right delivery at each step automatically, with no manual intervention and no separate flows to manage.

This article walks you through how to set up an order journey, with a real life example to show how it works in practice.

Setting up an order journey

  1. Navigate to Loop admin > Retain > Flows, then click Create flow. In the dialog that appears, select Order journey.

Another way is to directly select the Order Journey template by navigating to Loop admin > Retain > Flows.

  2. Enter an internal name for the journey. Set the status to Draft while configuring, and switch to Active when ready to go live.

  3. Under Journey products, click + Add products to add all the products that will be delivered across the journey.

  4. Under Conditions, click + Add condition and select the conditions that match your business requirements. If no conditions are added, the journey applies to all active subscriptions.

  5. Under Order journey, you will see an entry for each order in the sequence, starting with 1st order. For each order, you configure two things:

Product (mandatory) Select the product to be delivered for that order number.
Actions (optional) Add any additional actions to run for that order. Available actions include adding or updating subscription attributes, adding or updating product attributes, and adding or removing customer tags. Click + Add an order in journey to add more orders to the sequence.

  6. Once all orders in the sequence have been fulfilled, journey follows the preference set under "When the journey ends" section.

Keep the last product: The subscriber continues receiving the last product in the sequence on all future orders. The journey does not repeat.
Repeat from 1st order: The sequence restarts from Order 1 and will cycle through the full sequence again for that subscription.

Understanding journey with an example

Pita pan is a meal subscription brand offering weekly/monthly deliveries. They want new subscribers to experience a curated meal progression before settling into their regular plan. They set up an order journey with the following sequence:

Order

Product

1st order

Meal 1

2nd order

Meal 2

3rd order

Meal 3

4th order

Meal 4 (Signature box)

Brand adds all four meal boxes under Journey products and sets the trigger condition as per use case requirement. For each order, they assign the corresponding meal box as the product. Under When the journey ends, they select Keep the last product so subscribers continue receiving the Signature meal box after Order 4.

Considerations

  • Order journey is supported for both prepaid and pay-as-you-go subscriptions.

  • Multiple order journeys can run at the same time on the same subscription.

  • Order 1 only applies when the journey is set to repeat from the 1st order. A subscriber's very first order always ships with the product their subscription was originally created with, regardless of what is configured for Order 1.
