Multilingual notifications

Learn how to translate customer notifications into every language your store supports.

Multilingual notifications let you send customer email notifications in your subscribers' local language instead of English only. A global "Translate" button generates translations for every notification template in one click, so you do not need to configure each template manually.

Multilingual notifications are available on the Pro plan.

Why multilingual notifications matter

  • Feel native in every market: Previously, all notifications were sent in English regardless of a customer's locale, which made messaging feel less native in non-English markets.

  • Stay within Loop: Some brands used a separate email platform solely to send multilingual subscription notifications. Multilingual notifications remove that need by letting you translate directly from Loop admin.

  • Save setup time: The global translate button generates translations for every notification at once, instead of requiring you to configure each template manually.

For example, a skincare brand selling coffee scrub subscriptions across Germany, Spain, and France can now send upcoming order and payment failed emails in German, Spanish, and French, based on each customer's locale.

Setting up multilingual notifications

  1. Navigate to Loop admin > Settings > Notifications, then open the Emails tab.

If your store has more than one published language in Shopify and your templates have not been translated yet, a banner appears letting you bulk-translate all notifications instead of opening each one individually.

  2. Click Translate notifications in the banner to translate every notification template in one click.

  3. Once translation completes, the banner and the in-template translate button disappear, since every template already has translations. Each notification gets one locale for every language configured in your Shopify store. For example, if your store has English, German, and Spanish set up, each notification gets 3 locales, one per language.

Note: Translations are generated based on the default language template.

  4. Prefer to translate one notification at a time? Open the specific notification and use the Translate button inside the template editor.

Editing translated templates

  • Editing the primary (default) language template after translation prompts a choice: sync the change to all locales, or save it to just the primary template.

  • Editing a secondary (non-default) language template only saves that specific template. No sync prompt appears.

Adding a new language later

Adding a new language in Shopify re-triggers the global translate banner on the Notifications lisitng page. Running translation again adds the new language as a template to each existing notification, without affecting templates that are already translated.

Considerations

  • Once translated, templates go live immediately, and customers start receiving notifications in that locale right away. You can edit any translated template at any time by opening it.

  • The global and in-template Translate buttons only appear when your store has more than one published language in Shopify and the templates have not been translated yet.

  • Only the primary (default) template can be reset. Resetting a template deletes all its translated templates, and customers revert to receiving notifications in English until translations are run again.

  • Multilingual notifications are supported for the following touchpoints:

    • General customer emails

    • Loop loyalty emails
